I run several different classes to cater for different needs and abilities.

Everybody is different - call to have a chat about your individual circumstances.

Mat-Based Classes available in Woodley, near Reading, Berkshire:

I have a limited number of places available, so please call 07970 188816 to reserve your place.  A typical 6 week course costs £42.

These mat-based Pilates classes are run as small group classes, to maximise personal attention and are therefore suitable for most people (see below). 

Pre and Postnatal Pilates:

Specific pre and postnatal courses are available if there is adequate demand, if not I can often accommodate you in the general mat-based classes, or run 1-2-1 sessions.  Please call or email for more information.

 

Pilates is a slow, controlled, relaxing series of exercises ideal for the new mum.

 
  • Reduce common pregnancy and baby care aches and pains by improving posture.
  • Strengthen and tone the core muscles to protect, stabilise and support the spine (and achieve a flatter tummy!).
  • Meet other new mums in a friendly, relaxing class.
  • Re-educate and train the pelvic floor.
  • Reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Improve quality of sleep (if not quantity!).
 

Who can do Pre/Postnatal Pilates?

  • Suitable for both beginners and experienced Pilates participants.
  • Prenatal Pilates classes are suitable for most mums-to-be.  Call or email for more information.
  • You can start a Postnatal Pilates class after the doctor gives you the all clear to exercise after your postnatal check-up (usually 6-8 weeks after a vaginal birth and 8-10 weeks after a C-section).  Again, call or email for more information.
One-to-One Pilates:
Personal sessions run in your own home and tailored to your needs.  Includes a full postural assessment and an individual program.  Please call or email for more information. 

Post-Breast Cancer Rehab Classes:
Surgical investigations and treatment for breast cancer, with or without reconstruction, can affect the movement at the shoulders, the overall posture and a person's sense of well-being.  The Pink Ribbon Program is a post-operative Pilates based recovery programme, developed in the USA, to help regain mobility and improve strength and posture.  Taught 1-2-1 or in small groups, it is suitable for both recent survivors and those whose surgery was some time ago but who have failed to recover full mobility in the affected areas.  The Pink Ribbon Program is typically taught over 6 weeks, twice a week, or over 12 weeks, once a week.  Please call or email for more information.
 

Who can do Pink Ribbon Pilates?

  • You can start the Pink Ribbon Program Pilates class after the doctor/surgeon gives you the all clear to exercise (usually 6-8 weeks after surgery).  Again, call or email for more information.
  • Suitable for both beginners and experienced Pilates participants.
  • Some women repeat the program more than once (ie. after initial surgery and again after reconstruction).
 
After completing the Pink Ribbon Program many women feel comfortable to attend regular group Pilates classes as they then have the knowledge of which exercises are or aren't suitable for a person post breast cancer (eg. avoiding excessive weight bearing on the arms due to increased risk of lymphoedema, avoiding excessive spinal flexion due to increased risk of osteoporosis).
 
Pilates Workshops:

3 hour sessions looking at each of the original 34 Pilates exercises and their adaptations.  Run twice yearly for Improvers.  Please call or email for more information.

Who is Pilates not suitable for?

There are very few people for whom Pilates is not suitable, but if you have not exercised for some time, or have any health concerns then you ought to consult your doctor before starting any exercise program.  Call to discuss your circumstances.
